Primary Purpose:
To provide a continuum of services that focuses on maximizing time in the student's grade level general education environment for students with mild to moderate disabilities. To provide students a mixture of self-contained classes and mainstream settings for core subjects and electives. To assist with casework services to help students resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their ability to enjoy the benefits of the educational process.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of individual and group counseling skills
Knowledge and skill in casework methods
Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students
Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and the district
Have extensive training in individual interventions to help students succeed in the least restrictive environment.

Experience:
Special education or counseling experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Behavior Coach - is responsible for assisting the campus in identifying at risk students, developing positive behavioral support interventions and assisting teachers and staff in the implementation of these interventions.
2. Work with the clinical team and ARD committee to determine services for each student
3. Work with individual students, groups of students, and teachers to provide behavioral strategies and techniques to minimize instructional interruptions and promote a positive classroom and school environment.
4. Implement positive behavior supports and use scientifically-based research practices and interventions.
5. Assist with transitioning students into the mainstream setting where there is access to the general curriculum and "highly qualified teachers".
6. Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to enhance the social development of students including developing the ability to accept responsibility for their actions, resolve conflicts, develop decision-making skills, and handle crises. Work with students to improve their attendance.
7. Perform casework services with parents to increase the parent's' understanding of the PASS Program, their constructive participation in resolving their child's problems and their knowledge and use of available and appropriate resources.
8. Provide crisis support and counseling to students, parents, and school staff.

Assessment
9. Identify and explore causes of student's dysfunction as it relates to the home, school, and community including making home visits to gather information relating to students.
10. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist in interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students according to district.

Consultation
11. Serve as a consultant to school personnel regarding students or situations.
12. Consult with parents regarding their children's academic performance, behavior, and needs
13. Inform students and parents of their rights and responsibilities under federal and state law including compulsory attendance.

Program Management
14. Work with school personnel to provide academic coaching to provide supplemental, research-based interventions to students who have demonstrated academic deficits in order to close learning gaps and accelerate learning to ensure the student's ability to succeed in the grade level curriculum.
15. Implement the PASS program which is a comprehensive, multi level program that incorporates practices consistent with IDEA Amendments and No Child Left Behind.
16. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents.
17. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
Mental Demands/ Physical Demands/ Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions; occasional district-wide/ state-wide travel. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist nonambulatory students. Must be physically able to do the work.

Other: May be required to use CPI restraints with students. Other duties as assigned.
